Author Interview
How did your journey as an author begin?
I’m a family guy – plain and simple. God gave me a wonderful gift – my family. Anything and everything I’ve done or ever think about doing is centered around my family. To say I started out with the goal of being an author, I cannot. It was my family that told me I should consider writing a book. They know my love for cooking and baking. For years, one of our favorite past times has been to create and design from scratch – what we the Miles call the “Mansion”. It’s an elaborate Gingerbread house made with tender loving care, laughter, and a lot of sugar. When my kids were young, we started with store-bought kits. As the years went on and the kids became more adventurous, we graduated from the premade kits to our made-from-scratch recipes and patterns. This timeless family tradition continues to this day with our grandchildren. Being an author will enable me to share the love and joy of our family’s traditions.
Was it something you always wanted to pursue?
Over the years I have thought of cool movie or sitcom ideas but didn’t actually think of starting those with a book. It wasn’t until I had placed (4th) in our fair, The West Texas Fair and Rodeo, with a cake from my first time to enter. The next year, I got the coveted blue ribbon. The encouragement from family and friends to turn my hobby into something more was no longer mere encouragement but became an insistence.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I’d like to see myself writing and publishing cookbooks of various types and possibly more traditions and hobbies our family has come to enjoy.
What does being an author mean to you?
I would love to be able to share my and my family’s experiences with others and I feel this would be a great way to do so. Family traditions keep families close. This would mean so much knowing that others could start their traditions from my books.
